Rather surprisingly EU aspirants economies were not seriously hit by the September 11th events, Austrian newspaper Die Presse writes. The outlook for the economic growth of the applicant states is very promising, the article pointes out, underlining that the economic standstill in the European Union reflects negatively on its enlargement. The attack of September 11 delayed the development of the state of affairs, so the newspaper expects the return to normality will take some time. Economic experts find it really surprising that this delay reflects only on some separate parts of the Eastern countries economies. Domestic demand is pointed as of crucial importance for these countries, and it still remains strong. The economic growth for the Baltic countries is 3,4% for 2002 and 4,6% in the coming year. Currently Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia are developing very fast and performing a real economic wonder. The newspaper points out that the economic performance of Bulgaria, Romania and Croatia, which will not join the EU with the first wave, is also good.
