Military Helicopter Downed in Chechnya, 18 Killed

At least 18 people died when a military helicopter was shot down in Chechnya.

The machine was carrying troops, sent to accomplish a special federal task near the village of Shatoi in southern Chechnya, where rebels still have a significant presence.

Immediate reports show there are no survivors after the crash.

The victims are believed to have served with the Combined Federal Force in Chechnya. Most of its personnel are local citizens.
