More than half of Bulgaria's population suffers from obesity, Svetlozara Ilieva from the Association of Studying obesity and obesity-related diseases said on Tuesday.

Around 57% of country's population are overweight and 33% suffer from obesity, not including 10% of Bulgaria's children, she said.

In the framework of the "Alley of health" all people who want to check their weight parameters may do so from April 26 to 29.

This is part of the five-years project DIOGenes, which is a huge program for identifying, studying and applying in the food production of diet regimes that will help in the fight against obesity.

The project was financed by the European Union with EUR 14,5 M.
