Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov joined the initiative of the capital's 18th school William Gladstone and planted a tree that symbolizes the beginning of humane education in Bulgaria.

The students of the school, which turned 100 years in 2007, prepared a eco-corner featuring an rock-garden and some decoratove bushes. The mayor-planted tree is the center of the corner.

The AlVi national programme started this week under Borissov's patronage and aims at teaching a new, environment-concerned generation that realizes its moral obligation to respect all living creatures.

The programme was prepared by the Bulgarian animal protection organization AFA-Bulgaria, Sofia Municipality and international organizations including Dogs Trust and WSPA.
