Virginia Tech President: We Could Not Have Predicted the 2nd Attack

World | April 17, 2007, Tuesday // 00:00

Virginia Tech president Charles Steger told CNN the authorities could not have predicted the second attack on the campus.

There were two hours between the two separate attacks, the second of which saw 31 deaths, and officials have come under harsh criticism as to why the campus was not locked down.

Steger said they thought the shooting at dorm was a domestic dispute and authorities had no reason to believe that the second incident was going to occur.

They went by the assumption that the gunman has fled the campus, he added.

The rampage at Virginia Tech university, the deadliest shooting in US campus history, killed at least 33 including a suspected gunman.
