For the first 100 days in the EU commissioner's seat, Bulgaria's Meglena Kuneva managed to set up a modern strategy for consumer protection with a focus on the financial and Internet services, she herself announced on Monday.
EU Commissioner for consumer rights took part in the open sitting of the Economic and Social Council.
"We often complain that too much directives are imposed directly from Brussels. This is not actually the case as there are many opportunities to take national decision and measures and the EC to give just minimal number of rules," Kuneva said.
She pointed put that for her it is extremely important to guarantee the protection of consumers' interest all over the European Union.
"We cannot shift our national responsibilities upon Brussels because of what we haven't done. The laws are good enough, but they must be obeyed on a national level," Commissioner Kuneva added.
