Bulgaria's Green party will present on Sunday its list of candidates for the forthcoming European Parliament elections on the slopes of mount Vitosha that overlooks capital Sofia.

The party submitted the signatures necessary for registration in the vote on Friday.

The list of MEP hopefuls includes members of environmental non-government organisations, as well as party members.

The registration deadline for the elections, scheduled for May 20, passed on Saturday.

Political parties seeking to enrol their bids for the MEP elections, had to deposit BGN 15,000 and a sign-up in their support, made up of 15,000 signatures.

The figures for the coalitions and initiative committees stand at BGN 20, 000 worth of deposit and 20,000 signatures and BGN 10,000 worth of deposit and 10,000 signatures respectively.

Bulgaria joined the European Union in January and currently has 18 MEPs, compared to 35 by fellow newcomer Romania.

They enjoy full-fledged rights, but were delegated by their parliamentary represented parties instead of elected by general suffrage.
