Interpreter of Kidnapped Italian Journalist Executed - Report

The kidnapped interpreter of the Italian journalist Mastrogiacomo has been executed Sunday, international media reported, citing a purported spokesman for the Taliban.

Ajmal Naqshbandi, a freelance journalist and interpreter, was kidnapped March 5 in southern Afghanistan along with journalist Daniele Mastrogiacomo and his driver.

Mastrogiacomo was freed on March 19, but his driver was executed. The reported of La Repubblica reporter and his two colleagues were seized in the lawless southern province of Helmand. The Taliban claimed the reporter had confessed to spying for British troops. La Repubblica vehemently denied this.
