Charles Simonyi, the US software billionaire headed for space on Saturday on the board of a Russian spaceship, together with two other astronauts, international media reported.

The software mogul blasted into orbit on the Soyuz TMA-10 spacecraft from the Baikonur space base in Kazakhstan exactly on schedule at 1:31 p.m. EDT

Nine minutes later, loudspeakers at the launch-pad announced the rocket had safely delivered Simonyi -- the world's fifth space tourist who paid USD 25 M for the trip -- into orbit.

One of the co-founders of Microsoft Corporation, US millionaire of Hungarian origin Simonyi is making a 12-day round trip to the International Space Station (ISS). He was joined on the outward flight by Russian astronauts Fyodor Yurchikhin and Oleg Kotov.
Simonyi, 58, and the Russian astronauts are due to dock with the ISS on Monday.
