Cancer Cases Will Double by 2030

The International Agency for Research on Cancer has announced that the number of patients diagnosed with the disease will double between 2000 and 2030.

This will mostly be the case in poorer countries, Dr. Peter Boyle, the Agency's head said.

Population growth, longer life expectancy and the increased number of smokers are among the reasons for the cancer boom in the developing world. The main reason in poor countries is the lack of heath care.

According to the Agency, a total of 11 million new cancer cases were registered in the year 2000. Each year between 2000 and 2030 there will be twice as many new patients battling the disease.
