The World Bank will participate in the construction of a Skopje-Sofia railway and other transport communications between Macedonia and Bulgaria with technical assistance, Bulgarian Foreign Minister Passy said in an interview for Skopje newspaper Vecher, speaking to its correspondent in Washington, DC. According to him key support for the link-up of the two countries' railways will be provided by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. Success hinges on the two countries lobbying for the project together, Minister Passy pointed out.

Asked about Bulgaria and Romania's NATO lobbying Minister Passy said that an agreement had been reached with the Romanian Foreign Minister Mircea Geoana when lobbying for NATO the two to speak on behalf of both countries. “We made a historic agreement with Turkey and Greece that they would lobby and support Bulgaria and Romania during their progress to NATO, “ he underlined.

Minister Passy confirmed Bulgaria’s support for Macedonia’s NATO bid, given that the country has met the requirements. He recalled that at the Skopje meeting of the Vilnius Group last week the applicant countries agreed that regardless of the outcome at the Prague summit, the new members would continue to support the applicants which did not make it into NATO.
