A Portuguese film, telling the story of a Bulgarian immigrant won the best international movie at the New York International Independent Film and Video Festival.
The documentary movie entitled "Waiting For Europe" was shot in Portugal, Spain and Bulgaria with the support of Portugal's RTP TV channel. Director of the movie is Christine Reeh.
The film is represents an inward portrait of the young Vania, which follows her from Bulgaria to Portugal and Spain and back home. Vania wishes to realize the dream of a better life searching her personal independence and identity. She experiences illegality, isolation and exploitation while she tries to find answers for life's major decisions. This film is about emigration from a feminine point of view. It's about growing up and putting off life while hoping that, one day, the utopia of Europe will actually happen.
