Don't turn the five Bulgarian nurses jailed in Libya into a political cause for they will win nothing from this, Jan Marinus Wiersma, vice-president of the Parliamentary Group of the Party of European Socialists said.
Wiersma visited Sofia for the announcing of the MEP candidates of the Bulgarian Socialist Party and also commented on the idea of nominating the five nurses for seats in the European Parliament. These women don't deserve to be turned into the cause of one or other political party that may win from the whole situation, he said.
If they do get elected, the nurses and Dr. Zdravko Georgiev, couldn't assume their seats in the European Parliament, and this would leave Bulgaria with six representatives less to protect its interests in Strasbourg.
The European Parliament has already pressured Libya a lot and I sincerely hope that this pressure and the quiet diplomacy of some institution would lead to results and that the nurses would soon be home, Wiersma said.
