Bulgaria is not adequately prepared for its EU membership, the Union of Democratic Forces' leader Petar Stoyanov said Monday at a discussion on the topic "Where Does Europe Go to?"
"About 90% of the Bulgarians do not feel as EU citizens," Stoyanov added.
The leader expressed his opinion that Bulgaria could either just exist as an insignificant part of the European community or to seek unusual ways to defend its position.
The right-wing leader said Bulgaria owes its EU and NATO accession to his party as the other formations ruling at the time of the negotiations were putting off the whole process.
"This fact gives us the right to criticize some of the ideas that come from Brussels," Stoyanov announced.
He commented on the Union's participation in the Movement for European Reforms of the British and Czech conservatives as an opportunity for discussing the best ideas, which could be implemented in Bulgaria.
