The European Union will rethink its policy concerning Libya to find a more efficient way of dealing with the case of the five Bulgarian nurses jailed in Tripoli.
The Foreign Commission with the European Parliament adopted a change in its yearly report on human rights in the world, urging for a new policy towards Libya. The author of the change - Bulgarian MEP Antoniya Parvanova announced for Darik News that the commission had accepted her suggestion.
The report now reflects EU's disappointment with the lack of positive development in the nurses' case, although their confessions had been extracted through torture. Parvanova added that the paper indicated that the Commission's efforts to resolve the case had led to no results and Libya continued to keep its provocative tone on the matter.
The change was voted in with a vast majority giving the EP enough grounds to ask the EC for enforcing those measures. Some fear they could lead to serious diplomatic conflicts and even an embargo.
