Bulgaria's Artists' Union threw Tuesday night a ceremony for giving the annual theatre awards Ikar (Icarus).

This year's surprise was that the ceremony took place in a circus, as on the same date Bulgaria's Circus celebrates its 110th anniversary.

There was yet another special occasion on March 27 as it is the World Theatre Day, which was created in 1961 by the International Theatre Institute (ITI).

Deyan Donkov in his role as Don Juan, Kamen Donev for his play in Kuklen Dom (Doll House) and Marius Kurkinski for his mono performance Satresenie (Cataclysm) competed for the best actor award.

Boyka Velkova, Maria Sapundzhieva and Snezhina Petrova were nominated for best actress.

The nominees for best director are Alexander Morfov, Stoyan Radev and Yuri Pogrebnichko.

Ikar awards for supporting actor/actress, script and music will be also presented. Director Leon Daniel will receive the award for his complete works.
