Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov met the world famous director Volker Schloendorff on Friday.

The Deputy Mayor of the Capital Municipality Jordanka Fandakova, the executive director of New Boyana Film David Varod and the Chairman of the US producers' companies New Image and Millennium Films also joined the event.

Schloendorff arrived in Bulgaria to shoot his new movie "Pope Joan" with the participation of Bulgarian actors.

The famous German film director is special guest of the 10th Sofia International Film Festival. He received the Sofia Prize for lifetime achievement on March 11 before the screening of his masterpiece "The Tin Drum".

Volker Schloendorff won an Oscar award as well as the Palme d'or at the Cannes Film Festival for "The Tin Drum" (1979), the film version of the novel by Nobel Prize-winning author GГјnter Grass.
