Bulgaria wants to bring "added value" to the EU, Foreign Minister Ivaylo Kalfin said at the official start of the 5th European Business Summit (EBS).
Organized by the Federation of Enterprises in Belgium (FEB) and the Confederation of European Business (BUSINESSEUROPE), this year's summit marks 50 years since the creation of the European Union.
Held under the motto "Reform to Perform. Europe is Our Business" the meeting started with a special welcome for Bulgaria and Romania.
The EU is an undisputable success and now we have to place even more ambitious goals before ourselves," Kalfin said. He added that Bulgaria would take an active part in achieving those goals.
Out of 17 years of reforms in Bulgaria, 11 have passed in striving for EU accession, he underlined. Membership in the EU has always been a national goal and was never questioned despite the political quarrels and changes, he added. The perspective of this membership has been a powerful stimulus for reforms and changes.
The FM didn't forget to mention the "energy tension" that has been growing in neighbouring countries since Bulgaria upheld its end of the bargain and shut down Units 3&4 of the Nuclear Power Plant in Kozloduy.
