Oscar-winning Czech director and actor Jiri Menzel presented in Bulgaria his latest movie "I Served the King of England" together with leading star Ivan Burnev.

Based on a picaresque novel by Czech novelist Bohumil Hrabal the film tells the story, in flashback, of the burlesque rise and fall of an apprentice waiter in Prague during the first half of the last century.

Burnev portrays Jan Dites in his rise from boy waiter to hotelier that begins in a small town near the Czech-German border. The role earned the Bulgarian praise from many critics and colleagues at several international film festivals including the Berlinale.

During his stay in Bulgaria, Menzel joined the "You are not alone" campaign in support of the Bulgarian nurses sentenced to death in Libya. At the closing night of the Sofia Film Fest on Saturday, he was handed a lifetime achievement award by Sofia Municipality.
