Bulgarians Twice As Inefficient in Energy Consumption As Rest of EU

Bulgarian households waste twice as much energy as the families who live in the EU, the head of the Energy Efficiency Agency announced Saturday.

Snezhana Todorova said that about 75% of the electricity consumption in Bulgaria is for electrical appliances for daily needs like cooking and warming water. Some 15% go for heating while the remaining 10% are for lighting, the agency's data, quoted by the state radio, shows.

If Bulgaria applies energy efficiency rules, households will use more gas and energy-saving appliances.
