Nadezhda Mihaylova was born on 9 August 1962 in Sofia. Married, with two daughters.

Mihaylova is an MA graduate in literature from St. Kliment Ohridski University of Sofia, has Certificate for Accomplished program for Foreign Policy and Public Relations from the US Congress and Senior Managers in Government Certificate from Harvard University.

Mihaylova began her career as free-lance journalist. Later she became translator of Spanish poetry and English literature (more than 3,000 published verses and 3 books)

Sept. 1991 - Nov. 1991: spokeswoman of the Union of Democratic Forces during the electoral campaign; Head of the Press Centre

Nov. 1991 - Jan. 1993 - spokeswoman of the Government and Head of the Government Press Centre

1994-1997: Member of Parliament, 37th National Assembly (Member of the Foreign Policy Committee; Member of the Bulgarian delegation to the Council of Europe; Chairperson of the Committee for Parliamentary and Public Relations)

1995: Elected Deputy-Chairperson of the Union of Democratic Forces

1997: Re-elected Deputy-Chairperson of the Union of Democratic Forces

April 1997: Member of Parliament, 38th National Assembly

May 1997: Appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Bulgaria by the 38th National Assembly

March 10th, 2002: elected leader of the biggest opposition party in Bulgaria the Union of Democratic Forces.
