Prresident Peter Stoyanov invites King Simeon II and representatives of the Simeon II National Movement, as winners of Sunday`s general election, for a meeting on Friday. King`s coalition won by a landslide victory the June 17 parliamentary elections and according to preliminary results will have 120 seats in the 240-seat Parliament. Under the Constitution, after the National Assembly convenes for its inaugural session, the biggest parliamentary group is first mandated to form a cabinet. Friday marks the expiry of the four-day deadline set forth in the election law within which the Central Electoral Commission, CEC, has to publicize the results and the distribution of seats among the parties taking part in the June 17 poll. By Sunday, seven days after the poll, CEC has to announce the names of the MPs. King`s plans for the new government are yet unknown. In his first news conference hours after the end of the elections Simeon II said that the Movement favours coalition governance but did not specify which political forces will be involved. Movement`s Secretary Associate Professor Plamen Panayotov said on Tuesday that its leadership has not yet come up with a group to hold negotiations on forming a coalition government.
