Scorsese Finally at the Oscars Night's Top

Martin Scorsese was finally awarded best director honours in Sunday's 79th Academy Awards ceremony for his movie "The Departed".

Scorsese, who is one of the most prominent filmmakers ever, was repeatedly nominated, but has never taken the cake until last night.

�The Departed", which tells the story of the crime boss Frank Costello, who has placed a mole in a state police department's ranks, was also named the best picture and film editing.

Forest Whitaker was best actor for his performance in "The Last King of Scotland" and Helen Mirren earned best actress for her role in "The Queen".

Earlier on Sunday night, Alan Arkin won best supporting actor portraying the salty, heroin-addicted Grandpa in the production "Little Miss Sunshine".

The best supporting actress award won Jennifer Hudson, playing the role of a talented singer Effie White in "Dreamgirls".

Other award winners were "Happy Feet" for best animated feature film, "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest" for visual effects, and Gustavo Santaolalla for best original score for his music in "Babel".
