Mumps Epidemic Looming in Bulgarian Parachute Unit

Society | February 19, 2007, Monday // 00:00

A total of eight soldiers from the military parachute unit in Bulgaria's city of Sliven have been hospitalized with mumps, Darik News reported.

The infected are mostly men serving their mandatory military service, but there are some who are professional soldiers.

Olya Maneva, press officer of the Military Medical Academy in Sofia, claims that it is still too early to speak of an epidemic, as the cases are under 15. She believes that the reasons for the increased cases of mumps lie in problems with the immunization.
