There is something rotten in the sate of Bulgaria these days for sure.

It's been a week of obvious and not so obvious political statements concerning the country's government and governing parties, coalition and opposition.

Actually it all started last week, when Bulgaria's right-wing Union of Democratic Forces announced it's planning to table a vote of non-confidence against the government. It took more than 10 days to the coalition partners to ponder on this. And instead of uniting their efforts and forces, they just started quarrelling among themselves. What a waste of time, one may say.

The culmination happened Friday when socialist PM Stanishev had a temporary seizure, which gave him just enough time to say the centrist party of the ex-king Simeon Saxe-Coburg had obviously formed a new majority with the opposition.

The Saxe-Coburg, his pride badly hurt, commented the coalition is not a one-day thing.

Of course some say this has to do only with the scandal over voting for Bulgaria's MEPs, when the centrist in the coalition voted different than their partners, the ethnic party.

But some see beyond the visible, maybe inspired by the Transcendentalism in nineteenth-century America, not in literature is what I mean, but politics and simple political arithmetic.

The three-way collation of socialists, centrist and an ethnic party has been having some quarrels before, of course, and such things are normal in the "conjugal" life. But theirs is getting more and more rotten day after day.

Maybe the polygamist marriage is not for them.

Maybe someday they will consider divorce and division of family (Bulgarian property) between them before the story gets smelly from the rotting processes inside the coalition.
