First Tourist Spaceship to Conquer the Galactic

The visitors of London's Science Museum have the chance to see a mock-up installation of the world's first tourist spaceship from February 14 until the end of the month.

The Virgin Galactic Spaceship 2 is currently under construction in California's Mojave Desert.

It will be first tested in 2008 and the first commercial flight is scheduled for 2009.

The spaceship could carry a total of two crew and six passengers, who will be strapped into rather swish-looking seats.

The passengers will be boosted up into space from 50,000 metres and be able to experience weightlessness.

All of them will receive three days of preparation, medical checks, bonding, and G force acclimatisation before going on board.

They will go off in a two-hour trip into space at the astonishing price of USD 200,000.

About 200 people have already bought tickets for the first flight and another 70,000 from 125 countries have registered their interest in becoming a Virgin Galactic Astronaut.

"We're planning to fly 500 people in the first year of operations and 50,000 in the next ten years. Our real aim is trying to bring space travel to everyone so that everyone has that opportunity not just highly trained astronauts," the inventing company Virgin Galactic said.
