Bulgaria: Cashing In On It Photo by Kameliya Atanasova (Sofia Photo Agency)

"Enterpreneural" Bulgarians have often managed to surprise authorities with their business ideas that sometimes are outright illegal and may even endanger lives. Ideas like cutting up railways or removing shaft covers to sell them for scrap are dangerous at the least. But two "business" ideas shocked me as completely heartless today because they toyed with the feelings of people who have suffered enough as it is.

Seeing the buzz that a murder created in the country a young man decided he could fill his pockets by phantoming up another suspect in the case. That's really enterpreneuership in the making. I mean who cares if it is perjury if the dumb journalists are going to cough up a bill or two. And who cares that it creates doubt in an investigation and a murderer could be set loose. And I bet the thought of what all the ruckus would do to two families - that of the victim and that of the killer never even crossed his mind.

And as if that case is more the greed of a really dumb person (he did show his face, after all, making it so easy for the police to tear his story up to pieces,) than this next one is the work of a real market genius.

I really don't know what kind of a creature would set up a phony fund fooling people they are giving money for the five jailed Bulgarian nurses, but it has to be something towards the very bottom in the food chain. Cashing in on the pain and suffering of five women who have been tortured in more ways than we can imagine is simply too low for words.

Cruel as it is, I hope these two and people like them get a taste of their own medicine. Seeing the man who toyed with the emotions of five jailed women put behind bars - now that would be poetic justice.
