Hamburg is launching raids against beggars from Eastern Europe by the end of the week, municipal administration head Markus Schreiber has announced.
Beggars from Bulgaria and Slovakia, in particular, have increased over the past week in the downtoqn area of the city and they even use animals to make people take pity on them, Schreiber told Die Welt.
Schreiber is planning strict measures against the Bulgarian handicapped who come to his city to beg, because they are not allowed to to so by law, the article states. Violators of the law will be fined.
