Another week, another Thursday of Bulgarian pensioners' protest. Seeing that peaceful protest does not help at all, they decided to assault the building of the cabinet of ministers.

A bold decision, having in mind their age.

The retirees held their traditional protest against low pensions despite cabinet's decision for a 10% increase from July 1. Despite the promised 10% rise, pensioners claim this is still not enough, having in mind that the current pensions are really twopenny-halfpenny.

Hunger, misery and money insufficient to buy even things of first need kindled wild flames in the once young hearts of retirees and they managed to force their way through the police cordon. Their attack failed, thank God, because if they had succeeded in entering the building, the ministers would have been beaten to death with canes and bitten with retirees' fake teeth.

It's like a dГ©jГ  vu of the events of January 4, 1997, the riotous winter of hunger and endless rallies, when protesters assaulted parliament's building to oust from power the discredited Socialist-led cabinet of Zhan Videnov.

Funny thing though. The winter of 1997 these same people did not bother to back their children's protests and riots for a better life. Ten years later we are again ruled by the same socialists, who face same protests for better life. The new thing is the age of protesters. Ministers, better get a grip and start showing deeper understanding of the situation if you don't want to be put to shame by a bunch of retired old men.
