Bulgaria Tops Europe's Record High Temperatures

Temperatures in northern Bulgaria exceeded 20 degrees marking a new wintertime heat record on Sunday.

The mercury hit 21 degrees centigrade in Pleven, outracing the 1948 record of 21 degrees. Dobritch and Svishtov, in Northern Bulgaria, also upgraded the temperature records with some five degress.

On the Black Sea temperatures were about 15 degrees, with strong coastal winds, meteorologists said.

Bulgaria has been living through the warmest January in a hundred years.
