EU's Pressure on Libya "Could be Bad for Nurses"

Politics » BULGARIA IN EU | January 19, 2007, Friday // 00:00

Qaddafi Foundation has issued a statement claiming that EU's pressure on Libya may prove detrimental to the fate of the five Bulgarian nurses and the Palestinian doctor.

Any calls for pressure on Libya or any other measures the EU tries to impose on Libya may have negative consequences for the six medics, the statement reads.

Presided by one of Muammar Qaddafi's sons, the foundation has often played the role of mediator between Bulgaria and Libya in the case of the nurses, accused of intentionally causing a HIV pandemic at a children's hospital in Benghazi.

The European Parliament adopted a resolution on Thursday, stating that the EU may revise its engagement policy with Libya if the six aren't released.
