The court has adjourned yet another case over charges of malfeasance in office of former Sofia Mayor Stefan Sofianski.
A day after the court admitted as grounded his lawyer's claims for adjournment of the Gurko business center case over the European Parliament's plenary session of Strasbourg, the same motivation was accepted in the Millenium Business Centre case.
The new hearing will be held on February 1.
The former mayor of Sofia was sent to Strasbourg as MEP on the ticket of tiniest right wing Bulgarian People's Union.
Facing charges in several cases of malfeasance, last year Stefan Sofianski was stripped of immunity on his own demand. Pleading he has a MEP immunity, his lawyer has asked for the trial to be suspended.
The judge, however, could not rule out immediately, saying it is not clear whether Bulgarian MEPs enjoy the same immunity as their colleagues if they are not elected in direct polls.
Monday's adjournment related to the case of Gurko Business Center brought over charges he had acted unlawfully arranging the site's construction.
Concerning the deal of Millennium Centre construction, a hearing is due on February 16, 2007. Signals that the amount set by the municipal council for the deal did not answer to the sum that was actually paid propped the court to delay the hearing until the matter is investigated.
Sofianski was already acquitted on the malfeasance charges over the deal with the capital's large department store Halite. The mayor had been completing a collective decision adopted by the municipal council and could not be sentenced for meeting his office duties, the court decided in June.
