Russia Meets Christmas Eve

Religious services will begin in Russia's Orthodox churches late at night on the eve of Christmas traditionally celebrated in Russia on January 7.

In his address to the believers, Patriarch Alexy II of Moscow and All Russia congratulated all Orthodox Russians on Christmas and urged them to take an active part in public life.

He called on Orthodox Christians to prove the beauty and strength of the Orthodox faith with their lives.

Alexy II also spoke about progress in the unification of the church at home with the overseas Orthodox Church.
