Bulgarian journalists, district governors, mayors, NGO representatives as well as EU Representative Michael Humphreys and UNDP resident representative Neil Buhne were recognised for contribution to Bulgaria's path to the EU.

In an event adding to the series of celebrations running this week, Regional Development Minister Assen Gagauzov gave out honorary certificates.

He thanked each one of the awarded persons for working so hard to strengthen the partnership between Bulgaria and the EU member states.

"The unquestionable success of Bulgaria is standing on the foundations laid down by the efforts, ambitions and dreams of several generations of Bulgarians, he said at the ceremony.

Tsonko Tsonev, mayor of Black Sea's Kavarna, gave him back a T-shirt reading "Let Them Free" in a sign reminding the next vital challenge Bulgaria has to overcome - the rescue of five Bulgarian nurses on a Libyan death row.
