Bulgaria's health bodies will control food hygiene and safety in accordance with the EU regulations as of January 1, 2007.
Since Bulgaria has become a full-fledged member of the EU it has joined the Rapid Alert System for Food and Feed (RASFF).
The requirements for non-admission into Bulgaria of goods endangering human health or of products due to undergo obligatory import check according to an EC resolution have already come into force.
Regional health protection inspectorates will observe whether the EU requirements are followed.
Bulgaria's health authorities have already started checking manufacture and trade facilities in order to see whether they correspond to the hygiene requirements of the EU.
