Bulgaria's most eastern point, at Shabla Lighthouse, on the Black Sea coast and its keeper will be the first to enter the European Union.

Tasho Dimitrov has been working for 15 years on the lighthouse and this year his shift coincides with New Year 2007, state-run BNT informed.

The area of Shabla will meet the New Year some 21 minutes ahead of Sofia, to the west of the country.

The Shabla Lighthouse lies on 43В°32' N and 28В°35' E, which is Bulgaria's farthest eastern peak.

Then the New Year and Bulgaria in EU will be celebrated in the "rock capital" of Kavarna where Rainbow's legend Ronnie James Dio will stage a major free gig.

The latest EU newcomer towns and cities of Bulgaria - astronomically three minutes after midnight - will be Belogradchik, Bregovo, Kulata and Kyustendil.
