Bulgaria Marks St. Stefan's Day

Society | December 27, 2006, Wednesday // 00:00

Bulgaria celebrated Wednesday the day of Saint Stefan, one of the saints, whose name is among the most common in the country.

Translated the name means "a wreath", and is considered to bring the closure to the old year.

This day is considered one of the "dirty" days in Bulgaria. This means that women should not do laundry or wash their hair on that day if they want to stay healthy throughout the year.

The most famous cathedral by the name of Stefan is located in the very heart of Austria's capital Vienna.

People named Stefan, Stefka, Stefanka, Stoyan, Stoil or Stanka celebrate on that day in Bulgaria.
