Bulgaria's Patriarch Maxim attended church on Christmas Day for the first time since his release from hospital.

The Patriarch wasn't fit to lead the service, however, and the mass was led by Nikolay, Bishop of Znepol

President Georgi Parvanov also attended the mass, where the Bishop also held a special prayer for the five nurses sentenced to death in Libya. Parvanov said he hoped that the five would be safely back in their homeland in time for the next big Christian holiday.
