The overall business climate index went up 6.2 points in February, which is almost entirely due to greater optimism for the business climate in construction.

The business climate index for industry fell nearly two percentage points on month in February, according to the latest figures of the National Statistical Institute. The index reflects the present business situation in Bulgaria and expectations for the next six months. The proportion of companies experiencing financial difficulties increased from 38 % in January to 45 % in February. Companies once again expressed concerns over the instable economic environment.

Most business executives in construction (55 %) expect the business situation to improve in the next six months. The positive expectations gained 25.5 percentage points from January. The current business situation indicator gained 23.8 points. As a result, the composite business climate index went up 24.7 percentage points, the Institute's Teofana Genova said.

The retail business climate index rose 3.7 points on month for the first time since October, which is attributed to higher expectations for the next six months.
