World champions Albena Denkova and Maxim Staviski won the first place in ice dance, performing a clean free programme in the Grand Prix final in Saint Petersburg.

The Bulgarian couple grabbed Saturday the gold for the elegant routine, scoring 161.24 points.

Denkova and Staviski left behind Canada's Marie-France Dubreuil and Patrice Lauzon , who scored 156.34 points.

The Canadians were leading by 0.32 of a point after Friday's original dance but were marked down after Dubreuil lost her balance while performing a tricky twizzle sequence.

The two-day event at St Petersburg's Ice Palace pits the top six skaters in each discipline during the grand prix series, with each winner taking home USD 25,000.
