Bulgaria's hard-line right-wingers called on the government to take a clear stand for suspending EU talks with Turkey.
"The European Union made a huge compromise by starting talks with Turkey," Ivan Kostov, leader of Democrats for Strong Bulgaria, told journalists, presenting a declaration of his party.
According to him, Turkey is not ready for the negotiation process in a number of key areas. "The European Commission latest report pointed out that Turkey fails to keep major political commitments, such as protecting human rights, minorities and religious freedoms," Kostov said.
The declaration urges the government to review its stand on Turkey's EU accession.
"Turkey continuously isolates the ethnic Turks and uses them as a tool for intervening the political life of third countries, including Bulgaria.
Democrats for Strong Bulgaria will voice its stand at the European People's Party summit in Brussels at the end of this week.
At the end of November EU Commission officials proposed to freeze eight of the 35 "chapters" or policy areas into which the negotiations are divided.
These are free movement of goods, right of establishment and freedom to provide services, financial services, agriculture and rural development, fisheries, transport policy, customs union and external relations.
