Ex-PM Uninterested in MEP Seat

Former prime minister and diehard rightist leader Ivan Kostov said he does not plan to run for a MEP seat next May.

While on a visit to Russe, Kostov opined it is not appropriate for active politicians to participate in the polls, set to take place next spring.

Unlike Kostov's decision, his main rival for leadership in the rightist specter, Petar Stoyanov, is reportedly eyeing to head the party ticket for EP elections in Bulgaria.

Yet, Ivan Kostov outlined the coming spring vote as a key challenge for Democrats for Strong Bulgaria (DSB).

Bulgarian government has agreed this week to elect the country's 18 new full-fledged MEPs by mid-May 2007. Currently the country has 18 observers to the European Parliament.
