It is this time of the year, days before Christmas and the festive mood somehow starts to escalate uncontrolled by anyone.
Now, I call this time "the ten days of pre-Christmas sham charity". And all who practice it are competing to win the Phoney Santa title. Sadly, it's all about popularity.
It happens every year without any exception all over the world. Strangely enough most of the wealthy individuals remember charity is a very Christian thing to do only on big holidays.
Year after year the same idiotic scheme is repeated. Famous musicians, artist, politicians, businessmen, public figures and everyone who managed to get in the news during the year even with a very bad day picture dives into the latest fashion - paltry donations to orphans.
The latest example is a pop-folk singer, one of the many we have in Bulgaria. The blond lady (blondness being part of their "talent"), who has probably spent three times more on her fake breasts than she'll ever spend on donations, got her sham charity picture with an orphan girl. It was part of an event, where more than 100 children without parents were taken to the movies.
My point is that this is not charity at all. Being generous to those who have less than yourself, does not end with once-in-the-year picture of you, holding an orphaned child.
I hope until next Christmas we will all learn that the care for the weaker is a never ending process and a glitzy snapshot in the daily newspaper around the holidays is a lame evidence for being a good Christian.
