38 Killed in Military Plane Crash in Tehran

At least 38 people have been killed as a military plane crashed while taking off from Mehrabad airport in the Iranian capital, Tehran. The Russian-built Antonov-74, carrying members of the elite Revolutionary Guard, was due to fly to the city of Shiraz. BBC comments that the Revolutionary Guards are believed to have wide influence in the presidency of Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
