MEPs from the External Relations Committee have voted with impressive majority an amendment to the report on Bulgaria, urging for a more flexible approach to two units closure at Kozloduy.
The European lawmakers have suggested that the proposal for an eight-month delay in the decommissioning of Kozloduy nuke units 3 and 4 be voted separately.
During the discussion they focused on the unsolved energy supplies within the European Union and agreed the two units, set for closedown in a month, be left operative as they meet all safety requirements, state-run BNR radio informed.
Prepared by rapporteur Geoffrey Van Orden, the document was discussed and subject to approval within the External Relations body.
The voting firmly rejected the proposed amendment on "a Macedonian minority" tabled by the Greens.
The report is the most critical yet, Bulgarian EP observer Maria Kapon had said explaining that it was much harsher than the last one.
Van Orden, however, disagreed, saying that he was just trying to make the Bulgarian authorities do what they should to prevent safeguard clauses.
The aproved separate amendment will be subject to discussion in plenary on November 29 and a day later put to voting.
