Bulgaria: Soothing any "ism"s

By Ivelina Puhaleva

Once things turned out to be sure, the general tone switched from one "ism" to another "ism". Utter optimists about Bulgarian being an indisputable asset for the EU wore up overnight as extreme pessimists, predicting ubiquitous hikes, tough economic situation, a real "Big Brother" eye at every step. Hymns on how good and deserved our membership is surprisingly transformed into sad songs on the gloomy first days and months as an EU member. Both sides on the market - consumers and sellers - have been gradually shown the scarecrow of a reality, which is anything else but unknown. Bulgaria is not the first, nor shall be the last country to join the bloc and all predecessors have gone their own way to adapt to the EU. Personally, I do not see any difference with previous years, when in the face of January 1 speculation is at full swing on the prices of all stuff. So, let's forget all "isms" and be realists - we've come a long way to be here and we deserve to live it through.
