The latest report by EP rapporteur for Bulgaria Geoffrey van Orden is the most critical so far, the Balkan country's EP observer Maria Kapone said.
The report that the EP will vote on soon is much harsher than the previous one, Kapone said for BNR.
She explained that the report's eight section states that if Bulgaria didn't manage to fix the areas where it had been red-carded, the country would have no way to protect itself from safeguard clauses.
Kapone pointed out that last week has already shown the Bulgarians how the safeguards work, with the EU curbing Bulgaria and Romania's food products export. The fact that Bulgaria now limited its own export and put stern requirements before the companies from the food industry, meant that Bulgarians too wanted to have high-standard and quality food, Kapone thinks.
