Bulgaria's Dump Sites to Be Illegal in EU

Politics » BULGARIA IN EU | November 11, 2006, Saturday // 00:00

Dump sites all over Bulgaria will be illegal after January 1, when the country joins the EU, Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov pointed out.

There is not a single facility in the country where garbage can be processed, it can only be stored now, he told Darik News.

Sofia's garbage crisis has now turned into a national problem, Borissov said. He accused the government of trying to rob Sofia by cutting on the taxes that are returned to the city.

Borissov also pointed out that every fourth new car is registered in Sofia, so the money collected from eco-taxes should go for the people's health, and not in the Ecology Ministry and then to the "good" mayors.
