Celebrations of Bulgaria's National Enlighteners Day commenced a day earlier across the country.

On November 1 Bulgarians pay tribute to those committed to teaching, studying, culture or scientific works.

A solemn parade strolled down Sofia's streets under the portraits of Bulgaria's outstanding contributors to national enlightening.

The Enlighteners Day marks also a number of annual awarding ceremonies for teachers, actors, poets, artists, historians, etc.

Bulgaria has been celebrating the National Enlighteners Day since 1922 and the tradition of organising parades for students and teachers on this day date back to the 1930s.
