Bulgaria: Undergoing Treatment Photo by Yuliana Nikolova (Sofia Photo Agency)

By the looks of it lately EU is all about treatment. After all, it's the good way Boyko Borisov treated stray dogs that got us in, if you believe Bavarian MP Barbara Ruttinger. And it certainly seems like the way we treat the Roma may become the reason the door gets slammed shut right as Bulgaria is about to cross the doorstep, causing us all a serious headache and a metaphorical bump on the forehead, ouch! Authorities still haven't quite discovered the treatment for corruption - the cancer that has been eating through society and that's a problem too.

But finding the right way to treat a person, an animal, or a problem, is a difficult task and everyone sees the results differently. The dogs for example have drastically increased in numbers since Borissov assumed his post, but at least they are treated in a humane way. So they attack and mutilate people from time to time - so what?

When it comes to how we treat the Roma, the EP may quickly judge that Bulgarians are racists based on some ill-advised remarks, but most MEPs have never been to the country and seen the attempts many people have made and continue to make to accommodate them.

With corruption, the story is about the same - EC sees in all the recent trials and sackings the final stages of testing the cure before it gets approval and hits the pharmacies, but here, in Bulgaria nothing really seems to have really changed.

By the looks of it, EU is all about treatment. But looks can often be deceiving.
